About the Course:

This course discusses how a leader can and should assist their people in furthering their careers by utilizing performance management, discipline, and buy-in theories. Students will be tasked with analyzing their own inner circles, and how they can impact their effectiveness as leaders. All too often, people become blinded by these inner circles and separate themselves from those they should be leading. The ability to receive/interpret/utilize constructive criticism as a leader has become rare. If we form our circles with the proper support, we can extend our reach and effectiveness. The highlight of the current difficulties faced by officers must be seriously internalized by the leader if they are to be genuine in their efforts. This internalization tends to be readily translated into action, therefore avoiding the tragic escalation into THE IVORY TOWER. This ground breaking course is tailored to be beneficial for all ranks of an agency from Patrolman to Chief. This leadership course will have you engaged from the beginning to end. Captain Thomas Rizzo is one of Law Enforcement’s most acclaimed speakers. He has theorized and has been a thought leading speaker on leadership for several years at police academies and more notably for the Command & Leadership Academy based upon the West Point Military Academy.

Thomas Rizzo began his law enforcement career in December of 2001, as a Patrolman with the Middlesex Borough Police Department (NJ). In 2004, Rizzo was hired by the Howell Township Police Department (NJ), where he is currently serving as the Investigations Division Commander at the rank of Captain. Rizzo formulated Howell Township Police Department’s first Criminal Suppression Unit, where he has participated in a variety of search warrant executions, intra/inter-agency collaborations, and take-downs of distributors. Rizzo received a B.S. from the University of Central Florida in Criminal Justice, and an M.A. from Seton Hall University in Human Resource Training & Development. Rizzo graduated the NJSACOP Command & Leadership Academy in 2009 and was invited to return as an Instructor of Group Leadership Theories. Rizzo has been both a Police Academy and Department Instructor. He has been an Adjunct Professor with New Jersey City University Schools of Management, Criminal Justice, and Professional Securities Studies since 2012, while also teaching for Rutgers School of Public Affairs & Administration (2018) and Fairleigh Dickinson University (2019). Rizzo takes great pride in the constant pursuit of leading by example, while consistently being a student of human behavior. Rizzo has quickly become one of Street Cop Trainings most sought after instructors.
